THE VISP EXPERIENCE

1. INtroduction and Background

The school arranges for a veteran speaker to visit and share their experiences with the students. Prior to the visit, the school may provide some background information about the veteran, including their branch of service, length of service, and any notable achievements or experiences.

2. Assembly or Classroom Presentation

The veteran arrives at the school and is greeted by school staff and students. Depending on the format, the veteran may address the entire student body in an assembly or speak to individual classes. They may begin by introducing themselves and providing an overview of their military service.

3. Sharing Stories and Insights

The veteran shares personal stories and insights from their time in the military, highlighting key themes such as leadership, teamwork, resilience, and service. They may recount experiences of overcoming challenges, working in diverse teams, or making difficult decisions under pressure.

4. Question & Answers Session

After their presentation, the veteran opens the floor to questions from the students. This provides an opportunity for students to engage directly with the veteran, asking about their experiences, perspectives, and life after the military. The Q&A session encourages dialogue and fosters a deeper understanding of military service and its impact.

5. Interactive Activities

Depending on the arrangement, the veteran may lead interactive activities or workshops designed to reinforce key lessons from their presentation. This could include team-building exercises, leadership simulations, or discussions on topics like resilience and character development.

6. Reflection and Follow-Up

Following the veteran's visit, the school may facilitate reflection activities to help students process and internalize what they've learned. This could involve journaling, group discussions, or creative projects inspired by the veteran's stories. The school may also follow up with resources or opportunities for students to further explore topics related to military service and civic engagement.

COMPLETE MISSION

Overall, the veteran in school experience offers students a unique opportunity to learn from real-life heroes, gain insights into the values of courage and sacrifice, and develop a deeper appreciation for the contributions of our nation's veterans.
